SINGAPORE LIVING / HAZE & PM2.5
During Singapore’s transboundary haze episodes, PM2.5 is the main pollutant of concern. These fine airborne particles measure 2.5 micrometres or less. The right filtration can help reduce exposure, at home and outdoors.
AT HOME / AIR PURIFIERS
Our selection criterion for haze-focused purifiers is documented H13 HEPA filtration or higher, paired with a smoke clean air delivery rate (CADR) suited to the room.
Under EN 1822, H13 filters capture at least 99.95% of particles at the most penetrating particle size in standardised testing. Filter efficiency describes air passing through the filter; it is not a promise that a room becomes 99.95% particle-free.
OUTDOORS / RESPIRATORS
For haze protection, look for a genuine, NIOSH-approved N95 respirator. N95 filters meet a minimum 95% filtration efficiency for non-oil test aerosols. A close fit and a seal check each time you wear it are essential to reduce exposure to fine haze particles.
Ordinary surgical masks do not provide adequate protection against fine haze particles. They are not a substitute for a properly fitted N95 respirator.
Check each product’s specifications for its documented filter grade or respirator approval. Follow NEA and MOH guidance on outdoor activity and respirator use during haze.
